It was in the heart of the suffrage movement, before the female North American vote had been secured, while slavery was still prevalent, and the roles of men versus woman were clearly understood. Women writers in that day struggled to be taken seriously, struggled to find the time to write, and struggled to find some freedom within the ever present confines of their souls - creativity often trapped inside for decades.

In today's world, a room of one's own does definitely help, but there are so many demands on time that one must have an internal fortitude stronger than most if the thought of creative writing is to become a reality. Finding fifteen minutes a day seems to be a struggle, let alone finding that 15 in a quiet place, with free thoughts and flowing ideas. It is ironic that so women have come so far in so many ways, yet still creativity can be left behind.

<msn:type>blogentry</msn:type><live:type>blogentry</live:type><live:typelabel>Blog entry</live:typelabel>

<dcterms:modified>2007-05-02T18:08:39Z</dcterms:modified>

Living the dream vicariously...

Well one of my friends has finally done what I can only dream of....she has published her FIRST book!!
Don't Shoot...I have another story to tell you

~In the book One Thousand and One Nights. Scheherazade has to tell stories in order to survive. She tells such interesting and compelling stories that King Schehrayar can't help but let her live one more night and then another and then another. After a thousand and one nights, he gets attached and forgets his murderous desire. By salvaging her own life with stories, Scheherazade in turn liberates Schehrayar's heart from its darkness. As war and terrorism rages, so grows the antagonism between the Middle East and the West. "Don't Shoot! . . . I have another story to tell you" is the personal journey of an Iraqi woman who walks the tightrope between East and West. The book is a funny and often moving voyage of uncovering, discovering and discarding of identity. It is a book understanding the past, and telling new stories in order to embrace the future. Through these tales of transformation the book encourages the reader to grow attached and come to understand the Middle East's many contradictions.
